Built on the San Antonio River in the 1700's, Espiritu de Santos would be a self contained settlement established by the Catholic church to teach Christanity to the Indian people of the area . This is the chapel that housed Colonel James W. Fannin, who fought against General Santa Anna at the battle of Coleto Creek,as a prisoner and was later executed along with 342 of his men.This photo also taken by me in 1997.
